Fe(III) distribution varies substantially within and between atherosclerotic plaques.
PURPOSE Vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques are structurally weak and prone to rupture, presumably due to local oxidative stress. Redox active iron is linked to oxidative stress and the aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of Fe(III) in carotid plaques and its relation to vulnerability for rupture. METHODS Atherosclerotic plaques from 10 patients (three asymptomatic and seven ...
متن کاملpH after competitive rowing: the lower physiological range?
At rest, pH is one of the most stable physiological variables with an average of 7.41 (range 7.38±7.44) corresponding to a [H] of 39 nmol kg H2O. Yet, in both health and disease, pH decreases in response to hypoventilation and especially to anaerobic metabolism when `acid production' exceeds the buffer capacity. Thus, blood pH is below 7.1 in diabetic ketoacidosis (Snorgaard et al. 1989) and in...
متن کاملProduct information for parenteral colistin varies substantially across Europe.
OBJECTIVES Colistin is the first revived antibiotic to undergo substantial 'redevelopment' in academic settings. This study investigated the variation and accuracy of information in the summary of product characteristics (SPC) of intravenous colistin products approved in the European Union. METHODS The dosing, indication and pharmacokinetic information in the SPCs of approved intravenous coli...
متن کاملProstate Magnetic Resonance Imaging Interpretation Varies Substantially Across Radiologists.
BACKGROUND Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) interpreted by experts is a powerful tool for diagnosing prostate cancer. However, the generalizability of published results across radiologists of varying expertise has not been verified. OBJECTIVE To assess variability in mpMRI reporting and diagnostic accuracy across radiologists of varying experience in routine clinical care. ...
متن کاملPhysiological changes in human erythrocyte cholinesterase as measured with the "pH-stat".
Cholinesterase activity in human erythrocytes was determined in 1903 blood samples by the "pH-stat" method. Differences in activity were examined as a function of sex, age, and pregnancy. Reliability intervals for the population average and approval or normality intervals for individual values were established. Sex- and age-related differences were very significant.
